Senomyx Helping Feed Those in Need

November 28, 2011 Senomyx Community Involvement

Senomyx Food BankAs the holidays approach, it is a time of reflection and taking account of what you are thankful for this year.  It is also a great time to help those in need.  Approximately 500,000 people in San Diego County live at or near the poverty level, more than 70% of whom are children and babies.  Senomyx is partnering with the San Diego Food Bank, which serves more than 340,000 people in San Diego County each month, to help those who can’t feed their families adequately.  The Food Bank distributed 15.3 million pounds of food – the equivalent of 12 million meals – in 2010.

This is Senomyx’s 5th annual food drive, and to encourage our largest number of donations ever and have some fun, we put in place a little friendly competition. Our approximately 110 Company employees were divided into groups (mostly by department) to see who could bring in the most items for the drive.  The winning group gets lunch served to them by the executive team, well-deserved bragging rights, and most importantly, the knowledge that they are helping those less fortunate.

We succeeded in amassing four pickup truck loads, equating to 2,192 pounds, of donated goods.  We had 6,193 food and beverage items for babies, children, and adults, a record for a Senomyx food drive!  As a food-focused company that’s discovering and developing new flavor ingredients, we understand the importance of good nutrition and we’re happy to help local families in need.

If you would like to donate to the SD Food Bank or get your family, friends, and co-workers involved, we encourage you to contact them at

We hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday.  Senomyx employees are thankful that we can lend a helping hand to our community!
