Senomyx Hosts Biotech Club

Dave Linemeyer, VP of Biology at Senomyx, discusses taste science with the visiting clubs.

At Senomyx, we understand that learning is not always confined to a school or a lab, and we admire students who take the initiative in educating themselves. That’s why, after previously working with the California Institute of Technology’s Biotech Club, we once again hosted them at our facility.  The Caltech Biotech Club is a student organization whose objective is to establish a forum for Caltech students and researchers to interact with experienced individuals.

We were especially glad to have members of The Biotech Club from the University of Helsinki Graduate Program for Biotechnology and Molecular Biology join the Caltech group.  Part of the mission of the Helsinki club is to provide educational experiences for their students in industry venues, and we appreciate that they decided to visit Senomyx.

As the head of our Biology department, Dr. Dave Linemeyer, explained how taste receptors on the tongue interact with the flavors we eat, the students listened with rapt attention.  Dave’s comments sparked interaction and conversation with thoughtful questions.  Though the students had a variety of fields of interest and expertise, it was nice to see them share a common interest in taste science (we “sweetened” the experience by giving them breakfast while they were discussing the sense of taste).

We hope the California and Helsinki students enjoyed our presentation and learning about our company as much as we enjoyed having them at Senomyx!
