Senomyx Builds Green
When Senomyx expanded into our new state-of-the-art facility in 2006, we felt it was necessary to be environmentally conscious. Senomyx’s Director of Facilities, Woodie Perrin, worked extensively with the architects to design an energy-smart building. We were honored to have Senomyx recognized by San Diego Gas & Electric as one of their “Progress Through Design” facilities.
By making many forward-thinking tenant improvements, we were able to become extremely energy efficient. Some of the modifications included: lighting upgrades, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) improvements – including a direct-fired boiler with an 80% efficiency rating, variable-volume fume hoods, air handlers, and exhaust fans in the laboratories. Our ventilation system controls the airflow – reducing airflow by 45% while the facility is occupied and more than 64% after work hours.
Annual Energy Savings = 823,511 Kilowatt-hours of electricity and 58,319 therms of natural gas = approximately $196,500 savings/year.
