Senomyx Hosts E-Recycling Event
Senomyx employees recently gathered old cell phones, heaters, refrigerators, computer electronics and everything in between in the hopes of helping the environment. The Senomyx E-Recycling Event, which was held in collaboration with Eco Ranger Recycling, was inspired by employee Jen A. Eco Ranger is a San Diego based company focused on performing all services for electronic recycling and E-Waste processing.
E-waste represents two percent of America’s trash in landfills, but it equals 70 percent of overall toxic waste. E-waste has many types of poisons built into it that can be released into the environment. If old TVs and PCs are improperly discarded at the dump, they can shatter and release dangerous amounts of lead into the ground and eventually into our water. According to the World Health Organization, an extreme amount of lead alone causes damage in the central and peripheral nervous systems, the blood and the kidneys. Children under the age of 6 are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning, which can severely affect mental and physical development.
Senomyx employees support finding new ways to sustain a safe and beautiful San Diego. We hope our event helps San Diego stay clean and prevents E-Waste from not ending up in already over-filled landfills. With e-waste being the fastest growing municipal waste stream in America, electronic recycling is definitely an area where we can make a difference!
You too can recycle responsibly by scheduling a free service pickup or drop items off as long as your items are on the list of acceptable recyclables. To see other environmental efforts Senomyx takes please visit our Green Initiatives page.
